Tutorial Keyboard Shortcuts for Mozilla Firefox

Some keyboard shortcuts perform different functions based on cursor location (focus). For example, if you press Home on Windows while viewing a web page, Mozilla will move to the top of the web page. However, if you press Home on Windows while the cursor is in a text field, the cursor will go to the beginning of the text field.

To perform a command, press the buttons listed together at the same time. For example, to copy in Windows, press Ctrl and C at the same time.:


CTRL + G Find more text within the same webpage

CTRL + H Opens the webpage History sidebar

CTRL + I Open the Bookmarks sidebar

CTRL + J Opens the Download Dialogue Box

CTRL + K Places the cursor in the Web Search box ready to type your search

CTRL + L Places the cursor into the URL box ready to type a website address

CTRL + M Opens your mail program (if you have one) to create a new email message

CTRL + N Opens a new Firefox window

CTRL + O Open a local file

CTRL + P Print the current webpage

CTRL + R Reloads the current webpage

CTRL + S Save the current webpage on your PC

CTRL + T Opens a new Firefox Tab

CTRL + U View the page source of the current webpage

CTRL + V Paste the contents of the Windows clipboard

CTRL + W Closes the current Firefox Tab or Window (if more than one tab is open)

CTRL + X Cut the selected text

CTRL + Z Undo the last action


Page Navigation Shortcuts

These shortcuts allow you to navigate quickly around a web page, most with only a single keystroke.

* Spacebar — Page down one full screen at a time
* Shift – Spacebar — Page up one full screen at a time
* Down Arrow – Scroll down
* Page Down — Page down one full screen at a time
* Up Arrow – Scroll Up
* Page Up — Page up one full screen at a time
* End – Go to the Bottom (end) of the page
* Home – Go to the Top of page

These useful shortcuts help you quickly perform different common tasks within Firefox, manage Tabs and access bookmarks.
  • F5 — Reload the current page
  • Alt + Home — Go to home page
  • Ctrl + L — Go to the Address bar

  • Ctrl + = — Increase the text size, zoom in

Here are six mouse-related shortcuts for when you already have your hand on the mouse. These shortcuts include the scroll wheel and utilize the clicking function (middle click) of the scroll wheel.

* Shift – scroll down – Go to the previous page
* Shift – scroll up – Go to the next page
* Ctrl – scroll up — Decrease the text size, zoom out
* Ctrl – scroll down — Increase text size, zoom in
